Was it Marriage That Spoiled Osaze Odemwingie?

Marriage is one of the best things that can happen to any young person. Its stabilizing effect makes one matured and responsible, and it conveys an aura of respect and seriousness.

This was why many people celebrated with Osaze Peter Odemwingie, Nigeria's Super Eagles star and ex-West Bromwich Albion (WBA) player, when he married his sweetheart, Sarah Fallon in an eye-catching castle wedding at Castle Ashby in Northampton, UK.

But barely one year into his marriage were rumours rife that there is trouble in Osaze's marriage, and many believed, according to online reports, that his recent troubles with the national team coach and at his former club were a result of his marriage. And the finger of suspicion pointed to his wife.

Is Sarah responsible for Osaze's widely acclaimed so-called misbehaviour? Is his marriage to her having a bad influence on him?

Until now, Peter had been the darling of the Nigerian soccer fans. But how quickly can a man fall. And the question now is, who do we blame?

Online Reports claimed that family members in agreement with some friends were of the conviction that his “marriage is having an adverse effect on his career”.

According to them, “since his marriage to Sarah Fallon on 26 May 2012- after two years of dating, he has embraced behaviour that transformed his blossoming career downhill”.

Osaze engaged authorities of the nation's football governing body- Nigerian Football Federation and national team coach in a manner that attracted wide spread condemnation and got him sidelined.

Osaze who once played for Locomotiv Moscow went on to engage club authorities at WBA in similar manner, to the extent of single handedly trying to switch to another club. The move earned him wide spread jeers and ridicule. It also forced him out of team play and reduced him to the status of 'training material' at West Brom FC.

Societynowng suggests that those blaming his marriage for his recent woes have summed up all the incidents and believe there is something about the matrimony making him to behave out of line.

It was reported too that there was intense pressure for Osaze to take a break from his marriage, and it did troubled the marriage.

Marriage Alive strongly condemns calls for Osaze to rethink his marriage. This is not a solution to the challenges in his football career. We strongly enjoin him to hold firm to his wife and seek ways to resolve any issue in his marriage that may impinge on his career that is picking up lately at Stock City FC and was evident in Brazil 2014 World Cup where he did relatively well.

We are equally gladdened that Osaze remains unshaken in his commitment to his wife and marital vows. Our support and prayers goes to him and his young family.
We look forward to seeing more of his goals at home and on the pitch.
